Obituary for Avelino Goncalves
Avelino Goncalves, 87, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family. Avelino was born in the small village of Travassos de Cha in Portugal, where at the age of 18, he immigrated to Venezuela in pursuit of a better life. At the age of 25, he went back to his hometown to marry the love of his life Ana. Together, they returned to Venezuela where they lived and started a family. Avelino’s family was his priority and chose to relocate with his wife and two sons nearer to his parents and siblings in America. It was there that he and his wife welcomed their daughter. Avelino worked in construction and in 1985, he started his own company, Caracas Construction. He loved to travel with his family, eventually achieving his dream of taking all 8 grandchildren to his birth town, and looked forward to his annual Florida trips with them. He was also a member of Our Lady of Fatima Parish and the Gremio Lusitano Club.
Avelino leaves his wife of 62 years Ana, three children Matias Goncalves and wife Ermelinda, Manuel Goncalves and his wife Donna, and Anna Gomes and her husband Luis, all of Ludlow; eight grandchildren, who meant the world to him, Manuel Jr and his wife Daniela, Alexander and his fiancé Stephanie, Michael, Adam, David, and Mariana Goncalves, and Luis and Emma Gomes. He also leaves his brother Custodio Goncalves and wife Joaquina of Ludlow and several nieces and nephews. Avelino was predeceased by his sisters Ana (Joao), Ana (Avelino), brothers Joao (Ana), Antonio (Idalina), and Fernando (Maria), and his brother-in-law Manuel (Lucia), sister-in-law Maria (Mario).
Funeral services for Avelino will be held on Wednesday, March 6th. Visitation is from 8:15-10:15am in Ludlow Funeral Home with Liturgy of Christian Burial at 11:00am in Our Lady of Fatima Parish followed by burial in St, Aloysius Cemetery.
