Joao Surreira, 85, of Ludlow, passed away peacefully on March 16, 2024 surrounded by his loving family. Joao was born in Montalegre Portugal to Manuel and Ana (da Costa) Surreira and was a proud member of the Portuguese Military serving in Goa. In 1966, he immigrated with his wife Ana to the United States, settling in Ludlow where he was a former member of the Gremio Lusitano Club and worked for many years at Moore Drop Forge from where he retired. Joao was a devoted FC Porto fan, and his many hobbies included hunting, gardening, and tending to his chestnut trees; but his greatest joy was spending time with his family. Joao was the beloved husband of 62 years to Ana (Rua DaCruz) Surreira; a loving father to John Surreira Jr. (Megan) of Ludlow, Celeste Surreira (Cole), of Belchertown, and the late Ana Maria Surreira who predeceased him in 1996; a devoted Vô to Mia Jacintho (Jo), of Hatfield, and Alex Surreira (Jackie), of Ludlow, and visavô to his great-grandson Ari; a dear brother to Diogo, Manuel, Joseph, and David Surreira, Maria Crowley, Sally Palatino, and the late Albert and Abel Surreira; and also leaves many extended family members and friends. At Joao’s request, funeral services will be held privately by his family.
